June 2024 - Alistar Rogers


This month we hear from Alistar Rogers, a member of our U18 Maroon Team and Senior Men's Team. Alistar should be a familiar face around the pool, working his way from U12's all the way up to his Senior Men's Debut in 2023. Hear from Alistar below:

How long have you been playing water polo?

For around 10 years since I was 8


What made you take up the sport?

My sister started playing it.


What do you think is the most challenging part of the sport?

Its a very physically demanding sport that requires high fitness and strength.


What is the most rewarding part of the sport for you?

Being able to play the sport I love all over the world for different teams.


You are about to head off to the Youth World Championships with the NZ U18 Men’s Team. What is something that you are looking forward to when you arrive over there?

Playing against all the different styles of water polo and meeting people that have grown up with different cultures of water polo from all over the world.


What is your biggest Water Polo Highlight been so far?

My biggest highlight for me was scoring my first goal for the New Zealand Senior Men last year.


Do you have a Sporting ‘idol’ you look up to? Who is this and why?

Steven Adams, because as a kid I enjoyed watching a New Zealander dominate a very American based league. 


Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time in terms of Water Polo?

I hope to be able to study and play water polo overseas in either Australia or the USA and work towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympics where NZ Qualify to play for the men.
