U14 Nationals Round Up

From the 12th - 17th December seven of our U14 teams took part in the U14 Div 1 and 2 Nationals held in Auckland. The teams had a massive four days of games to finish of the year and all our teams had a fantastic time, learnt a lot, gave it their all and came away with some outstanding results. Check out all of the teams games and placings below

Maroon Girls

5 - 3 v Marist Red

11 - 2 v Atlantis Aqua

6 - 6 v Harbour City

7 - 5 v Atlantis Tridents (Semi Final)

7 - 3 v Seawolf Black (Final)

The Maroon girls' team had an incredible tournament, building each game to eventually claim the National Title. The girls took out Atlantis in a nail-biting Semifinal penalty Shoot-out which was an achievement in itself as the Atlantis team had not lost a game all season. The team fired up for the final and proved just how talented they were, dominating the final with a 4 goal lead at full time. We also had Rose Tindall who was named MVP of the tournament. A big thank you to Rob, Chelsea and Beth for all of your time with the team this season.

Black Girls

2 - 9 v Atlantis Aqua

0 - 16 v Harbour City

4 - 7 v Waikato

4 - 10 v Brisbane Vikings

3 - 19 v Tauranga

3 - 1 v Mountfort Park

After a promising 6th place in Auckland League, the girls Black team had high hopes going into Nationals. They fought hard but unfortunately lost their first two pool games, putting them out of top 8. Regardless of this setback they continued in high spirits, learning lots each game and improving throughout the tournament. The girls continued playing with resilience and won their final game, becoming the third best B team in New Zealand - a great achievement! A massive thank you to Sarah, Stevi and Hannah for all of the hard work you have out into the team this year.

White Girls

10 - 1 v Hawkes Bay

3 - 5 v Canterbury Black

3 - 1 v Atlantis White

6 - 3 v Southland

12 - 1 Harbour City

3 - 10 v Seawolf Grey

Our White Girls continued to improve throughout the tournament. The girls had some really great games where they all came together and scored some really good goals. They also had some really tight games going down by only a couple of goals in some of their games with the team ending up in 10th place in Div 2. An awesome effort from the team who had just as much fun out of the pool as they did in the pool. They even got to play in the rain on Day 1 which was an experience in itself! A massive thank you to coaches Ava and Kara and manager Sheryl for all of your efforts this season.

Maroon Boys

5 - 2 v Seawolf Black

15 - 3 v Marist Blue

7 - 6 v Marist Red

7 - 1 v Seawolf Grey

4 - 5 v Tauranga (Semi Final)

6 - 10 v Waikato (Bronze)

The Maroon Boys had a strong start to the tournament, coming up against strong Auckland teams Seawolf and Marist. The boys had four closely fought quarters in both of these games and managed to push out both teams in the 4th quarter to win, notably beating Marist, who went on to win nationals. As the Maroon Boys progressed, they came up against Tauranga in a semi-final, which saw a very low-scoring game that the boys unfortunately lost. The Maroon team’s last game was for the bronze medal against Waikato, who played a strong and fast game to take the bronze. The Maroon Boys overall placed 4th. A massive thank you to Bailey, Nemo and Marie for all you have done for these boys throughout the season.

9 - 2 v Mountfort Toki

The boy's Black team had a very successful Auckland League, placing 4th and gaining a lot of experience playing Water Polo the top teams in Auckland. After unfortunately loosing both games in pool play, the boys rallied together, playing the best Water Polo of the season to get 9th place. Big thanks to Liam, Ted and Tracey for all the work they put into the team.

4-2 v Hawkes Bay Rangatira

13-0 v Waitakere Teal

5-3 v North Harbour Blue (Semifinal)

3-5 v Otago A (final)

The White boys had a great tournament, improving every game with the the team's skill and bonds building after every game they played. Holding a 2-2 tie for most of the final the White team just fell short in the last quarter coming away with silver. A great achievement for the team with this tournament being most of the players first U14 season. Huge thanks to Ella, Mason and Natasha for their efforts with the team this season.

The U14 blue boys had a great nationals full of improvement and learning. Leaving the pool stage undefeated with narrow wins to both hibiscus coast and Waikato, the boys were ready for their semi-final against the North Harbour White boys. unfortunately, the closely fought match was not in their favour going 5-3 to the white boys. The team ended nationals in 4th, narrowly missing a medal. However, the team developed a strong bond and worked hard every single game for their teammates. Big thank you to Matt, Mat and Emma for all you did for this team over the season.
