This month we hear from Rangitoto Junior and U14 player, Rose Tindall. Rose is an up and coming driver, who has had an excellent season with both Rangitoto and North Harbour, winning Junior North Islands and going back to back in the U14 Nationals Competition!

How long have you been playing water polo?

Since year 5, 5 seasons

What made you take up the sport?

My dad used to play and my sister played.

What do you think is the most challenging part of the sport?

Going to training in the morning after a late one the day before is hard, plus going to swimming when i can't be bothered 

What is the most rewarding part of the sport for you?

Seeing improvements in my individual skills as well as my team improving and succeeding in our tournaments. I love being able to add a medal to my wall while enjoying the games I'm playing.

What is your biggest Water Polo Highlight been so far?

Winning U14 nationals 2 years in a row was super satisfying and our 2024 team improved so much which made it even better! 

Do you have a Sporting ‘idol’ you look up to? Who is this and why?

Gabby Doyle. She is very inspiring with her hard work, being in so many New Zealand teams and going to the University of Hawaii. 

You just played in the U14 Nationals with the U14 Maroon team, what was your favourite moment of the season?

Definitely beating Atlantis in the semi at nationals as they were undefeated and we were not expected to win. It was very cool to see Sophie (our goalie) save a penalty in the shootout as well as all of our shooters scoring their penalties.

What is the best piece of coaching advice you have received so far in your water polo experience?

Always be team player and if you put the work in at training you will get results
