This month we hear from Bridget Mihaljevich. Bridget is an U16 Club Member and also plays for Carmel. She has been in our U14, U16 and U18 Maroon Teams, has recently been named in the development Squad for the Hammies and attended the U16 World Champs with Team Canada last year! How long have you been playing water polo?

Since I was 8. This is will be my 8th season. 

What made you take up the sport? 

Both of my older siblings played. 

What do you think is the most challenging part of the sport? 

The most challenging part would be having the confidence in yourself to play your game and having a good mindset even when things aren’t going your way. 

What is the most rewarding part of the sport for you?

Making lifelong friendships from where the sport has taken me. 

What is your biggest Water Polo Highlight been so far? 

Playing in U16 World Championships in Turkey for team Canada. 

Do you have a Sporting ‘idol’ you look up to? Who is this and why? 

My brother. Mat is my biggest supporter and critic. I look up to him because he works very hard while showing leadership and dedication. 

Last year you competed in the Cadet World Championships with team Canada. What were your biggest takeaways and learnings from the trip? 

My biggest takeaway was getting to experience a whole new style of coaching from experienced coaches from the other side of the world and seeing the different ways things can be done from another perspective. Playing and learning under a new style of coaching let me understand more ways of how things can be done and new tactics. 

What advice would you give to our younger club members who are just beginning their Water Polo journey? 

Stick at it and be willing to improve and learn.
