Results from Schoolboys Nationals and Div2 Girls Nationals


The New Zealand Secondary Schoolboys Championships were held in Wellington during the second week of the  holidays. Three North Shore schools qualified for the four day tournament held at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre. Rangitoto College coached by Alex Mckenzie went down as one of the top Auckland schools and succeeded in winning the National Title for 2016. Rangi played St Kentigens in the final and proved to be the stronger team on the day. Matt Morris was named in the Tournament Team and there were also strong performances by many of the team members. Westlake Boys coached by Davor Carevic had a couple of early losses and could not go through to top 8. Losing by one goal in their final match they came 10th place. Kristin Boys finished a credible 11th place.

The Division 2 Girls Nationals saw again three of our North Shore teams head down to Hamilton to compete in the four day tourament at Te Rapa pools. Westlake Girls had a solid tournament and made it to top four only just losing their Semi Final by two goals to Hamilton Girls High School. They ended up coming third after convincingly beating Diocesan B 7-3 in the Bronze medal match. Takapuna Grammer and Carmel had some close games but couldnt quite get themselves into top eight. Takapuna Grammer finishing 10th and Carmel finishing 11th. Congratulations to Jordan Kemp from WGHS who made the tournament team.
