The Girls come out on top again at Pan Pac's

Over the past few days our U14 girls have worked hard to achieve greatness and that they did. The girls have had a run of sickness throughout the team with the coach, manager and some players being unwell during their tournament but that did not stop our gutsy girls go through their rounds with wins – some tighter than others. Matt Payne is featuring in his last Pan Pac’s ever – a coach that has achieved some amazing titles over the past 10 years. The girls wanted this title for him and that did just that. The girls went down early 1-0 but Dayna Clark evened it up by the end of the quarter to have the girls 1-1 at quarter break. Dayna continued her momentum in the second quarter scoring another two goals to put the girls up 3-1 at half time. The Sydney girls came out firing in the second half scoring 3 goals to North Harbours one from Lucia Doak. The score was 4-4 at full time. A penalty shoot-out with Rachel, Lucia, Dayna and Robyn all scoring, plus a massive save from goalie Atlanta saw the girls take the game with a final score of 9 – 8.

Our U18 Women headed by Richard Claridge and assisted by Robbie Tindall were always somewhat favourites for the title but  they had some hard games during their time in the tournament. This was Richard’s first coaching role for a while and did he show all that he hasn’t lost his ability to take the teams to the next level. The girls got themselves up 3 -1 by the end of the first quarter with two counter attack goals coming from Emily Nicholson and Nadia Pavlovich and another coming from Liana Dance after turning her Marist opponent. The girls had a slower second quarter letting Marist score three goals to bring them down 4-3. Another counter attack goal from Bernadette Doyle saw the girls come level at half time. The girls came back in the third quarter scoring another two from Liana and Emily Sanderson to put themselves ahead 6-4 with one quarter to go. The girls managed to hold off the Marist attack with some big saves from goalie Alisha Winstanley and another goal from Nadia Pavlovich saw the girls finish the game and take the win 7-5. Awesome work girls on being undefeated all season!

Our U14 Boys had a strong tournament as well and were looking good heading into the Semi Finals. Unfortunately after a slower start to the game the boys couldn’t pull themselves back going down to Sydney Uni in the semis by to goals. The boys were very tired after a tough few days of polo and in the bronze match they couldn’t quite find their momentum going down to Marist 8-4 and coming 4th place overall. Well done to Steve and the boys, awesome effort!

Well done to all of our players, coaches and management on a very successful tournament for the club. We claimed all of the Women's titles and came away with one of the Men's we also got a 2nd place and a 4th. We were the only New Zealand Club to attain a gold medal and that is something we can be extremly proud of as a club!
