Exciting Coaching Announcement!


North Harbour Water Polo Club are pleased to announce the arrival of our new Head Coach Salvador Gómez Agüera nickname is Chava. He will be working with the Senior Men’s team this season along with several of our Age Group teams.

 

Chava is a former Water Polo player and coach from Spain. He has coached in the Spanish National League since 2008 and most recently was the Head Coach of the Sabadell Premier Men’s team who he also coached at the LEN European Champions League since 2015. Under Chava’s coaching, Sabadell have placed within the top 5 in the Spanish National League throughout his 5 year tenor as head coach, with his last three seasons placing a respectable 2nd place.

 

As a player, Chava has competed in five Summer Olympics from 1988 to 2004 and was a member of the National Team that won gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, as well as the silver medal at the 1992 Olympics held in Barcelona. He is only one of four Spanish Water Polo players, all in the 1992 and 1996 medal winning teams, to have competed at five Olympics. With the Spanish National Team he also won the World Championships title twice, in Perth 1998 and Fukuoka 2001.

 

Chava is currently coaching in Japan where he will finish his contract in February this year and head straight to New Zealand to join our club.

All club members will have the chance to work with Chava throughout his time in New Zealand where he will be assisting in several age group teams, boot camps and weekly trainings. If you see him poolside please feel free to introduce yourself and make him feel welcome as he joins our North Harbour Water Polo Club family.
